Master of Public Health

In fieldwork, known as a practicum, you’ll step out of the classroom to implement real change at a local, national or international organization. At the Brown School, students have the unique opportunity to select their own practicum location, working with faculty and advisors from the Office of Field Education to locate a site that will serve their academic and professional aspirations.

The Brown School’s community partners are operating at the forefront of the field. From the Washington University School of Medicine, to the CDC, to international nutrition agencies, our practicum locations give students access to the latest innovations. You’ll leave your practicum with experiences that will distinguish you in your job search, and an advanced skill set that will serve your lifelong career.

The Brown School offers generous scholarship support—more than $8 million last year—as well as need-based financial aid.

Brown School students typically cover their educational expenses through a combination of sources, including:

The MPH tuition rate for the 2023-2024 academic year is $20,800 per semester. Every applicant who requests scholarship consideration receives an award.

The Brown School considers each applicant holistically. Our students come from a wide variety of academic backgrounds. Although we welcome students with an undergraduate degree related to public health, it is not a requirement. Admissions and scholarship decisions are based primarily on a review of the following:

• Commitment to the mission of the Brown School and ability to articulate your reasons for pursing an MPH
• Undergraduate GPA
• Additional academic work
• Specialized training relevant to the program
• Human service-related experience
• Leadership experience or potential
• Ability to think critically
• Recommendations from academic and professional references

The MPH program also requires that you complete an undergraduate human biology course with a grade of “B” or better by the first year of your program.
